Abstract

Abstract :The study aimed to measure the effectiveness of using educational robots on developing programming skills for middle school female students. The study used a cognitive test and an observation rubric to measure the cognitive and performance level of robot programming’s skill. The study was applied on one experimental group consisted of (18) students from eighth grade at one of the female public schools in Saudi Arabia. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of middle school students in the pre and post application of both cognitive test and the performance programming skills observation card in favor of the post applications due to the use of the educational robots. The results of the study showed that the adjusted gain coefficient for Blake meagered above than (1.2) compared to the pre and post applications of measurement tools in favor of the post application, which indicates the effectiveness of using the educational robots in developing cognitive and performance programming skills for middle school students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In light of the results, a set of recommendations were presented, the most important of which is to benefit from the study and its tools (cognitive test - observation card), and the establishment of training courses by the competent educational authorities to use the educational robots in the development of programming skills in all levels of education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
