The Effect of a Collaborative Programming Environment in Developing Programming Concepts and Systemic Thinking Skills for Secondary School Students

Abstract

The general objective of the current study is to identify the effect of a collaborative programming environment on developing programming concepts and systemic thinking skills among high school female students. The study also adopted the quasi-experimental approach, and the sample of the study consisted of (60) female students, they were divided randomly into two equal groups: control and experimental, each group contains (30) female students. The control group used a traditional programming environment on the personal computer, whereas the experimental group used online collaborative programming environment. The study tools were an academic achievement test and a systemic thinking skills test. The result indicated that there were statistically significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) level between the mean rank scores of the two groups in the past measure of the cognitive achievement test and systematic thinking test in favor of the experimental group. The study concluded by offering a group of recommendations and suggestions that related with utilizing the online collaborative programming environment when developing different concepts and skills.
