Abstract

This research aimed at identifying The difference of the e-learning pattern (synchronous, asynchronous) in a smart learning environment and its impact upon developing database design skills for the students of the Higher Institute for e-commerce systems in Sohag . The research experiment was applied upon two randomly selected experimental groups in the academic year2020/2021. The figure of the first experimental group consists of (39) male and female students, while the second group consists of (37) male and female students. Two research tools were prepared; The first is an achievement test; to measure the cognitive aspects of database design skills, for the students of the research sample, while the other tool is the observation card; to measure the performance aspects of the necessary skills needed to databases design, for the students of the research sample. The results of the research proved that there is a statistically significant difference between the average scores of the students of the first experimental group that studied using the synchronous e-learning style, and the average scores of the students of the second experimental group that studied using the asynchronous e-learning style in the post application of the cognitive achievement test and the observation card, in favor of the first experimental group. In addition, the results of the research reflected a clear, significant, and greater growth among students of the first experimental group in cognitive achievement and database design skills than the students of the second experimental group.
